Sejarah Hari Ibu
Sejarah Hari Ibu diawali dari bertemunya para pejuang wanita dalam Kongres Perempuan Indonesia I pada 22-25 Desember 1928 di Gedung Mandala Bhakti Wanitatama di Jalan Adisucipto, Yogyakarta. Kongres tersebut dihadiri sekitar 30 organisasi perempuan dari 12 kota di Jawa dan Sumatera.
Hal itu menjadi latar belakang dan tonggak sejarah perjuangan kaum perempuan di Indonesia, dan memotivasi para pemimpin organisasi perempuan dari berbagai wilayah se-Nusantara berkumpul menyatukan pikiran dan semangat untuk berjuang menuju kemerdekaan dan perbaikan nasib bagi kaum perempuan.
Pada Kongres Perempuan Indonesia I, yang menjadi agenda utama adalah mengenai persatuan perempuan Nusantara; peranan perempuan dalam perjuangan kemerdekaan; peranan perempuan dalam berbagai aspek pembangunan bangsa; perbaikan gizi dan kesehatan bagi ibu dan balita pernikahan usia dini bagi perempuan, dan lain sebagainya.

Salah satu keputusannya adalah dibentuknya suatu organisasi federasi yang mandiri dengan nama Perikatan Perkoempoelan Perempoean Indonesia (PPPI). Melalui PPPI tersebut, terjalin kesatuan semangat juang kaum perempuan untuk secara bersama-sama kaum Laki-laki berjuang meningkatkan harkat dan martabat bangsa Indonesia menjadi bangsa yang merdeka, dan berjuang bersama-sama kaum perempuan untuk meningkatkan harkat dan martabat perempuan Indonesia menjadi perempuan yang maju.
Pada tahun 1929 Perikatan Perkoempoelan Perempoean Indonesia (PPPI) berganti nama menjadi Perikatan Perkoempoelan Istri Indonesia (PPII). Kemudian pada tahun 1935 diadakan Kongres Perempuan Indonesia II di Jakarta.
Makna Hari Ibu
Hari ibu mempunyai makna dibalik spesialnya tanggal 22 desember, di Hari Ibu ini membuat kita jauh lebih menyayangi dan menghargai segala sesuatu yang ibu kita telah beri dan perjuangkan untuk kita.
